NEWS BRIEFS: NOAA ocean celebration set today; volunteers needed for Port Townsend event

PORT ANGELES — The National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Ocean Service will celebrate “30 Days of the Ocean” today.

The public is invited to join the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary to welcome summer and celebrate Orca Awareness Month at The Landing mall, 115 E. Railroad Ave., from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Attendees can meet Mike, an inflatable life-sized orca, and learn more about marine wildlife at NOAA’s Olympic Coast Discovery Center.

Volunteers needed

PORT TOWNSEND — Thunderbull Productions seeks volunteers to help with its Old School 4th of July event.

Those interested in volunteering can register by visiting www.thunderbullproductions.com, or calling Daniel Milholland 360-385-0519.

Volunteer roles include set-up team, parking team, entrance greeters, 50-50 Raffle sales, firework support team, banner-hanging team, clean up crew, four-way stop greeters and hot air balloon assistants.

All volunteers will receive an event T-shirt designed by area artist Cougar George.
