FORKS — Olympic National Park and the city of Forks will hold a public meeting about the Lake Crescent U.S. Highway 101 project at 5 p.m. Thursday.

The public is invited to the meeting at the Rainforest Arts Center, 35 N. Forks Ave.

Taste of Peninsula

SEQUIM — Tickets are on sale now for A Taste of the Peninsula set April 21.

Habitat For Humanity of Clallam County will host the event at 5:30 p.m. that Saturday at Sunland Golf & Country Club, 109 Hilltop Drive.

Tickets are $100 per person and are on sale now at www.habitatclallam.org or by calling 360-775-3742.

The gathering will feature “local purveyors of food and libations offering savory and sweet tastings,” according to Habitat’s website.

Canadian Navy to use Bentinck Island range

ESQUIMALT, B.C. — The land-based demolition range at Bentinck Island will be in use Monday through Friday, March 23, the Royal Canadian Navy announced.

The range will be in use from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily during that time.

Bentinck Island is located near Race Rocks in the Strait of Juan de Fuca and is used as a terrestrial demolition range by the Canadian Armed Forces.

Local residents will likely be unaware of the activities except on days when environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity and wind direction affect how far the sound will travel.

Studies conducted on the potential environmental effects of Bentinck Island demolitions have found that blast noise in the marine environment during land-based demolitions is almost undetectable by acoustic equipment above that of other underwater background sounds such as waves and marine life, the Royal Canadian Navy said in a news release.

PC announces talent winners

PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College recently held its third annual Peninsula’s Got Talent event, resulting in three winners.

An audience of about 150 gathered to see 10 finalists selected by the Associated Student Council.

Chris “Chi” McNulty captured first place with a performance of his original song, “Memories.”

He also won a $500 talent scholarship and a performance at the Juan de Fuca Festival on Memorial Day weekend.

Lauren Piper placed second with a performance of an original song she wrote called “Only He,” and Cecilia Warfield captured third singing “I Dreamed a Dream” from the musical “Les Miserables.”

The judges were Dan Maguire, Janet Lucas, Dr. Luke Robins and Paige O’Dell.

The masters of ceremonies were Kelly Kevershan and Emelie Small.

Tickets on sale for Catnip, Sip

Peninsula Friends of Animals invites members of the public to its annual spring tea, fashion show and auction event “Catnip and Sip” Saturday, April 7.

Tickets for the fundraiser are available to purchase until Tuesday, April 3. They can be purchased for $35 a piece at Allstate Insurance, 440 W. Bell St., Sequim; or Friends’ Safe Haven shelter, 257509 US Highway 101.

The noon to 3 p.m. event will be held at Sunland Golf & Country Club, 109 Hilltop Drive, Sequim.

During the event, volunteers will model fashions from Moxie Boutique in Port Angeles.

PFOA is a fully donor-supported, cageless and no-kill nonprofit animal shelter.

Orientation planned

Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County will hold two informal orientations in Carlsborg and Port Angeles on Thursday, April 5 and Friday, April 6.

The Carlsborg meeting will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday. Those interested in attending are requested to call 360-775-7806 for directions.

The Port Angeles meeting will occur from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at hospice’s headquarters at 540 E. Eighth St.

Those who are interested in volunteering, or seeking to learn more about hospice are encouraged to attend the free meetings.

There is an immediate need for bereavement support volunteers, according to a news release.

Professionals working in or retired from counseling or social work fields are encouraged to apply.

Unity speaker talk on Lent slated Sunday

PORT ANGELES — Unity in the Olympics’ 10:30 a.m. Sunday service speaker will be the Rev. Donna Little.

Her lesson at the church at 2917 E. Myrtle St. is titled “What Does Lent Mean to Me?”

Little is a resident of Sequim and is a licensed and ordained Unity minister.

A time for silent meditation will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

Child care is available during the service.
