NEWS BRIEFS: Forks man in serious condition … and other items

AMANDA PARK — Willie E. Gilley, a Forks man who was injured in a crash near Amanda Park on Sunday, was listed in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center, a nursing supervisor said Tuesday.

Gilley, 58, was ejected from a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado when he veered off the roadway, over-corrected and slid broadside into a ditch on U.S. Highway 101 at milepost 127, according to the State Patrol.

Gilley was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, troopers said. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.

Gilley was transported to Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen before he was airlifted to Harborview in Seattle.

He was listed in serious condition in Harborview’s intensive care unit, hospital spokeswoman Susan Gregg said.

Studium Generale

PORT ANGELES — Studium Generale will feature writer, speaker and activist Shewa Dedeke, who will present, “I Am Here to Testify Again” at 12:35 p.m. Thursday.

The free lecture will be in the Little Theater at the Peninsula College campus at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.

A year after serving in the Peace Corps Rwanda, Dedeke will reflect on living abroad during the height of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Witnessing consistent violence on blacks through social media, Dedeke worked through her despair by reading James Baldwin, and honors his legacy through testifying.
