7 p.m. Monday.

The gathering will be in the Carver Meeting Room of the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

Mike Doherty, longtime holder of the seat, is not running for re-election.

Two artists of the month

PORT LUDLOW — The Port Ludlow Artists’ League will feature two artists for the month of July.

JoAnne Dille and Rose Simon will present their work at Columbia Bank, 9500 Oak Bay Road.

An opening reception will be held today from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the lobby of the bank, and from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Artists’ League Gallery next door.

The monthly drawing for an original artwork will be held toward the end of the reception. Tickets are $2, and all proceeds go to the student scholarship fund.

Dille always had an interest in learning to draw and paint, but her first paint brush stroke wouldn’t come until a year after she survived a massive stroke.

Dille had to learn to draw with her nondominant hand, and after several months, she discovered that artwork was a stimulating cognitive activity that brought pleasure and helped her cope with post-stroke pain.

Simon is a mixed media artist who has experimented with a variety of art mediums from calligraphy, collage, assemblage and jewelry-making to watercolor and acrylics.

She has always been deeply interested in the healing effects of art since she first picked up a calligraphy pen during her rehabilitation from back surgery.
