PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Public Utility District announced Monday that there would be a planned power outage affecting western Port Angeles and Joyce from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.
There also will be a planned outage affecting the West End of the county from 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday.
The outages are required to allow routine maintenance of substations.
Automated phone calls have gone out to affected customers.

Horse workshop
CARLSBORG — Clallam Conservation District will conduct a workshop from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. today on how to prepare a horse farm for winter weather.
The workshop will include a tour of a private 5-acre horse farm in the Carlsborg area.
The owners have installed gravel heavy-use areas, a track paddock that provides space for horses to roam while allowing three cuttings of hay to be harvested from the field and have a small-acreage irrigation system.
Participants also will tour the well-laid out barn and learn tips for making winter farm chores much easier.
This workshop is free but pre-registration is required. The location will be provided on registration.

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Library Society will discuss the novel “Hunger” by Roxane Gay at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Port Angeles Libray, 2210 S. Peabody St.
The society discusses a different book on the fourth Wednesday of each month.
The public is invited to read the book and join the discussion at this free meeting.

Park hosts needed
SEQUIM — The city of Sequim is seeking volunteer park hosts for Carrie Blake Park.
The host must live on-site in their own mobile housing. The site is available Monday.
Park hosts are available to answer questions for park visitors and to assist the city with any issues that might arise at the park.
Other duties include: monitoring public restrooms, notify janitor if issues arise; monitor park grounds, notify Public Works if safety issues are present; mingle with patrons, answer questions and give directions to park amenities; contact police (9-1-1) if abuse or foul play is witnessed; notify public works crew when maintenance issues are noticed and keep patrons informed of park rules and regulations.
Ideal candidates would be available for an extended stay.
