PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles Schools Superintendent Jane Pryne has announced that Michael Herzberg has been selected as the new principal for Dry Creek Elementary School.
Herzberg will replace interim principal Mary Hebert starting July 1, according to a news release.
Herzberg currently serves as dean of students, an assistant principal role, at Sunset Elementary in Issaquah.
He has been employed as a teacher in the Issaquah School District since 2004 and has taught several grade levels at different schools.
From 2007-2008, Herzberg served as a program assistant and administrative intern at Discovery Elementary.
Herzberg also is a consultant for the Bureau of Education & Research in Bellevue, evaluating interactive online professional development courses for teachers.
“We are very excited to welcome Michael Herzberg and his family to the Port Angeles School District,” Pryne said.
“His primary teaching experience and his recent administrative leadership role makes him a great fit for Dry Creek Elementary.”
Herzberg earned an Initial Principal Certificate from the Danforth Educational Leadership Program at the University of Washington in 2008 and Washington State Professional Teacher Certification from Seattle Pacific University in 2007.
Herzberg has a master’s in teaching and earned a Washington State Teaching Certificate in 2004 from Seattle University.
He received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Washington in 2002.
Herzberg’s appointment will be placed on the agenda for Thursday’s School Board meeting, which will be held at Lincoln High School, 924 W. Ninth St.
