PORT TOWNSEND — A Port of Port Townsend official will brief Jefferson County leaders — including two new county commissioners — on the Port’s effort to bring the Hood Canal Bridge graving yard to Port Townsend.
Port Executive Director Larry Crockett is scheduled to go before new Democratic Commissioners Dennis Sullivan of Cape George and Phil Johnson of Port Townsend at their first meeting.
The session starts at 8 a.m. Monday at the county courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St.
Crockett’s graving yard presentation is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
Pair sworn in
Superior Court Judge Craddock Verser on Thursday swore in Sullivan and Johnson as county commissioners in his courtroom.
They unseated Republican Commissioners Glen Huntingford and Dan Titterness in the Nov. 2 general election and officially assume office at midnight tonight.
Commissioner Pat Rodgers of Brinnon, who is expected to also attend Monday’s meeting, is the lone Republican remaining on the county board.
Jim Pivarnik, Port deputy director, on Thursday said a “collective brain trust” of the Port’s top managers were putting together a report for the state Department of Transportation, answering in depth the state’s new request for proposals to build a graving yard.
The huge onshore dry dock would be used in the manufacture of pontoons, anchors and road decking for the east-half replacement of the Hood Canal Bridge.
The floating span’s replacement is scheduled for 2007.
