NEAH BAY — The Makah Tribe now sells visitors a recreational use permit to maintain and build new trails and facilities on its reservation.
The permit is required for parking on tribal lands or at tribal facilities and must be hung on the rearview mirror or displayed clearly on the dashboard of a vehicle.
Visitors to Makah Days this weekend don’t need the permit unless they use or visit other locations or facilities on the reservation, a tribal official said.
The new permit, which was implemented in July, costs $7 and is good for a year from the purchase date.
“The permit is intended to help pay for maintenance to trails, the building of new trails and to build and maintain bathroom facilities,” said Alice Langebartel, Makah realty coordinator.
