Neah Bay: National group urges more study of wave energy project

NEAH BAY — A national environmental group wants a more thorough analysis of potential effects from the ocean wave energy project proposed off the coast here.

“We just want to ensure the environmental assessment or environmental impact statement is thorough, especially because the project is in a national marine sanctuary,” said Ian Miller of Port Angeles, the Washington field coordinator for the Surfrider Foundation.

“But we have no interest in holding up this project or standing in front of it in any way.”

The request was made last month to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission as part of that agency’s public comment process on the ocean wave energy project.

The Surfrider Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting oceans, waves and beaches.
