NEAH BAY — Makah tribal members will celebrate their culture and heritage this weekend during the 80th annual Makah Days.
The three-day celebration includes traditional dancing and drumming, salmon bakes, canoe races, a parade, coronation of royalty, Slahal (bone games) tournaments, and basketball and baseball competitions.
“People interested in enjoying the rich culture of the Makah tribe should come out this weekend,” said Makah Tribal Council Treasurer Blanchard Matte.
“They can experience something that they normally would not be able to see.”

Matte said everyone is welcome at Makah Days.
“We want people to come out and celebrate with us,” he said.
“It is a great event, with a mixture of things to see and do.”
Matte said the Makah tribe has one of the best dance groups in the Northwest which will perform during the weekend.
In addition, several Makah families will perform their “family dances,” which date back hundreds to thousands of years, Matte said.
“There will also be plenty of good salmon to eat,” he said.
