PORT ANGELES — The 70-some people who packed a Clallam County courtroom Wednesday over a crematory proposed in Carlsborg will learn late next week if their protests must continue.
That’s when county Hearing Examiner Chris Melly will decide if he will second-guess his own approval of the crematory at 108-B Industrial Loop in the Carlsborg Industrial Park.
Melly heard arguments for and against reconsideration Wednesday that were presented by attorneys David Neupert, Douglas Jensen and Gerald Steel.
Neupert represents Jason Linde, who seeks to install the 6-by-14-by-8-foot ceramic unit within a 48-by-40-foot building.
Jensen is a county deputy prosecuting attorney, and Steel represents Brian Magner and other opponents of the crematory.
Members of the standing-room-only crowd, who belong to Citizens for Carlsborg, were not allowed to speak, partly because Melly also must decide if they are parties of record in the case.
The group coalesced to oppose the crematory, but only after Melly approved it.
