PORT ANGELES — In the hush of a crowd gathered Saturday night to pay tribute to Clallam County public safety workers, a single emergency signal on a firefighter’s radio reminded audience members why they were there.
More than 400 people applauded county firefighters, police officers, state troopers, sheriff’s deputies and 9-1-1 dispatchers in “Celebration of America: A Tribute to Our Men and Women of Public Safety.”
The evening, which culminated the efforts of Port Angeles businessman Alan Barnard and an 11-member committee, featured storytellers, singers and schoolchildren praising county and national rescue workers.
“We focus our celebration tonight on the men and women of safety who are our heroes,” said emcee Mike Millar.
