PORT ANGELES — Monday Musicale has announced the winners of its annual music scholarships.
Due to the governor’s stay at home order, the group was unable to meet to listen to the applicants’ auditions, instead each applicant submitted a video of their performance.
The videos were reviewed by an independent panel of judges composed of Mark Johnson, the pianist at Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church; Vicki Helwick, a member of the Peninsula Singers and the Northwest Women’s Chorale; and Paul Creech, a composer and piano tuner.
The scholarship committee, based on the judges’ critiques, awarded $1,500 scholarships to Ethan Cameron, Payton Sturm and Emma Weller.
Ethan Cameron, a senior at Port Angeles High School, sang “Apres un Reve” by Faure and “Non Piu Andrai” by Mozart accompanied by Jolene Dalton Gailey.
Cameron plans to study music and performing arts at the American Music Dramatic Academy in Los Angeles.
Payton Sturm, a senior at Sequim High School, sang “Ici-Bas” by Faure accompanied by John Lorentzen.
Sturm plans to study human resources management and musical theater at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
Emma Weller, a senior at Port Angeles High School, played Mozart’s Sonata for piano, No. 11, K. 330.
Weller plans to study physics and astrophysics at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
