PORT ANGELES — A construction crew hired by the city to replace a guardrail on Park Avenue ruptured an 8-inch water pipe Wednesday.
Water from the pipe spilled into the yards of about three residences and one basement in the 600 block of East Park Avenue.
Glenn Cutler, city public works and utilities director, said the Petersen Bros. Inc. crew drove a new post for the guard rail through the pipe between noon and 1 p.m.
This occurred, he said, because the city’s utility maps showed the pipe in a different spot. Since the pipe was made from concrete, it couldn’t be detected by any tools, he added.
Cutler said city utility workers responded immediately to shut off the water. He expected the pipe to be fixed Wednesday evening.
