SEQUIM — A Sequim man found near the Olympic Discovery Trail about two miles west of Gardiner apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot, according to Clallam County Sheriff Brian King.
Deputies received a report at about 6 p.m. Sunday that the unnamed 53-year-old man was having suicidal thoughts and alerting friends and family of his intended action, King said.
Deputies attempted to locate him by pinging his cell phone, King said, but they were unsuccessful in finding him that night and morning.
A resident mowing his yard at about 1 p.m. Monday found the body of the man about 50 feet north of the Olympic Discovery Trail on Knapp Road.
An autopsy is pending, but King said evidence suggests it was a suicide at the location with no suspicious activity.
King said the sheriff’s office does not plan to release the man’s name.
