Man airlifted to Seattle hospital after cliff fall

PORT ANGELES — A Sequim man who said he fell off a cliff in west Port Angeles on Sunday was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Monday afternoon.

The U.S. Coast Guard airlifted the 31-year-old man after he told police he fell off a 140-foot cliff the day before.

Cpl. Clay Rife of the Port Angeles Police Department said Monday he wouldn’t identify the man because he was unsure if family had been notified yet.

Rife said it was initially reported at 11:30 a.m. that a man had fallen off a bluff near the 2500 block of West 10th Street. Rife took a path down to the beach and found the man still alive, he said.

“He told me he had been there about 24 hours,” he said. Rife said he didn’t know the circumstances around the fall.

Shortly after the man was found, a Port Angeles aircrew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter arrived on scene and airlifted the man.

The Coast Guard said in a press release that the man had multiple broken bones. Rife was unsure of the extent of the man’s injuries.

In stable condition

The man was transported to Harborview Medical Center at 2:12 p.m. and was in stable condition, according to the Coast Guard.
