PORT ANGELES — Veteran Master Gardeners Bill Wrobel and Jeanette Stehr-Green will lead a “Lunch in the Garden” walk from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, July 11.
The free, fast-paced walk will be through Fifth Street Community Garden at 328 E. Fifth St.
The two will talk about soil types and proper watering; growing warmth-loving crops such as tomatoes, corn, basil and melons; renovation of June-bearing strawberries; and harvesting broccoli, onions and garlic.
Master Gardener David Rambin will join Wrobel and Stehr-Green to talk briefly about fall and winter gardens.
The event is part of “Lunch in the Garden,” an educational series sponsored by WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners on the second Friday of each month through September.
Each month, master gardeners lead a walk through the community garden to show home gardeners what needs to be done in vegetable gardens at that time and what problems are likely to appear.
They also answer questions and share recipes that use fresh local produce.
Wrobel, who is certified in three state, has been a master gardener since 1984.
Stehr-Green has been a master gardener since 2003 and was the 2012 Clallam County Veteran Master Gardener of the Year.
Rambin joined Master Gardeners in 2012 and serves as vice president of the Master Gardener Foundation of Clallam County.
Together the three have almost 100 years of experience growing vegetables.
