Lower Elwha schedule thank-you dinner

The Lower Elwha Klallam tribe will thank people who contributed time, money or supplies to the 2005 Tribal Canoe Journey at a dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Tribal Center, 2852 Lower Elwha Road.

Darryl Barkley, a coordinator of the event that ran from Aug. 1-7 at the Lower Elwha Reservation, said volunteers should wear their “Paddle to Elwha”‘ T-shirts.

Organizers, participants and guests at the festival all credited volunteers for making it a success. About 3,500 members of Northwest tribes and Canadian First Nations attended the drug- and alcohol-free celebration of Native canoe culture.

Barkley promised “a surprise” for persons who attend Tuesday’s dinner.
