Lodging tax panel applications due

PORT ANGELES — The city of Port Angeles has extended the deadline for applications to fill all seven positions on the lodging tax advisory committee.

The new deadline for submitting applications is 3 p.m. Wednesday.

The deadline was extended from its original date of Sept. 5 because only one application has been received, said Teresa Pierce, city spokeswoman.

The committee is an advisory group made up of volunteers that makes recommendations to the City Council on activities or facilities to be funded by lodging excise tax revenues.

All seven of the one-year terms have expired.

“It’s time to fill the positions again,” Pierce said.

The requirements for serving on the lodging tax committee are very specific, she pointed out.

The committee has representatives who serve on behalf of activities funded by the lodging excise tax and also representatives who serve on behalf of those who collect the lodging excise tax.

There are two seats for those representing lodging excise tax collectors, two representing lodging excise tax recipients and three citizen-at-large members who neither represent businesses required to collect lodging excise tax nor are involved in activities funded by lodging excise tax.

Citizen-at-large positions are non-voting members.

Members must be residents of the city or representatives of businesses within the city.

Meetings are held on an as-needed basis.

Applications are available at www.cityofpa.us/boardscc.htm or from the City Manager’s Office at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.

For more information, contact Pierce at 360-417-4630 or tpierce@cityofpa.us.
