Local access TV show is the cat’s meow for shelter animals

PORT TOWNSEND — After the camera and microphones left the Jefferson Animal Shelter on Wednesday, volunteer Joyce Fell took one of the TV show’s lead actors out for a walk.

Sizzles, a gray, brown and yellow border collie-mix, jumped with excitement.

His co-stars — five other dogs and six cats featured in the new PTTV’s “Adopt a Pet” program — barked and meowed in their cages, awaiting their turn.

Fell says she hopes new homes become available as more Port Townsend residents learn about pet prospects through a show aired on public access television several times a week.

The show’s aim is “to let the people of Port Townsend know that the animals are here and we need their support not only by adopting the animals, but also by volunteering and donations,” Fell said.

“The animals belong to the community and we want the community to know that we are here and that the shelter is a really nice place.”

Program airs weekly

The PTTV Channel 47 program is aired weekly at 11 a.m. Monday, noon and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, 6 p.m. Thursday and 1:30 and 6 p.m. Friday.

The Wednesday shoot was the second show this year.

Originally a Port Townsend High School student’s project several years ago, the show has been off and on the air.

Now, with the help of Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Adopt a Pet directors hope to make it more systematic.

“We are really excited to do it,” Fell said.

Project volunteer Glen Paris-Stamm had already filmed a similar show earlier this month.
