LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: Roaring rhythms overrun Peninsula venues

MARCH CAME IN like a lamb on the North Olympic Peninsula, with lots of sunshine and mild winds. But for those heading to evening musical events, jackets are still very much needed.

Port Angeles

■ Today at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, it’s Jerry’s country jam with guest singer Terry Roszatycki from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Today at Bar N9NE, 229 W. First St., the open mic starts at 9 p.m.

On Friday, Scott Sullivan and Casey Northern play folk grass, rock ’n’ roll and more at 9 p.m. $3 cover.

On Saturday, DJ RoBoTiX spins a variety of beats for dancing from 9 p.m. into the night.

■ On Friday at Barhop Brewing, 124 W. Railroad Ave., PufnStuff plays classic rock from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. (21 and older after 9 p.m.). $3 cover.

■ On Friday at The Metta Room, 132 E. Front St., it’s an all-ages hip-hop show featuring Adlib of Battleaxe Warriors from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. $10 cover. An after-party for the 21-and-older crowd featuring DJ Bizzle kicks off right after and goes until 2 a.m.

On Saturday, The Fabulous Hayshakers play country and blues at 9 p.m. $3 cover.

■ On Friday at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, there’s a jam session from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by the Serendipity band with Dee Coburn and the Nightbeats until 8 p.m.

■ On Friday at The Lazy Moon Craft Tavern, 130 S. Lincoln St., Dan Maguire plays with Doug Parent, presenting acoustic Americana at 7:30 p.m.

On Wednesdays, Ches Ferguson & Friends perform classic rock with a few originals thrown in from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

■ On Monday at Coo Coo Nest, 1017 E. First St., join the open mic with Jared Bauer at 9 p.m.

■ On Tuesdays at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., Wally’s Boys play dance favorites from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first-timers free.

Sequim

■ Today at Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., Cort Armstrong, Jim Faddis and FarmStrong play from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Friday, Hot Lammas, a Port Angeles duo, plays bluegrass and newgrass from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Saturday, jazz songstress Jenny Davis performs fresh arrangements of jazz with Seattle pianist Eric Verlinde from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Friday during the First Friday Art Walk at Rainshadow Coffee Roasting Co., 157 W. Cedar St., Kevin Lee Magner and sister Mary Theresa sing blues, gospel and folk at 6 p.m. Scott Bradley accompanies on guitar.

■ On Saturday at the Sequim VFW hall, open to the public at 169 E. Washington St., the Old Sidekicks play classic and old-time country for dancing from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

■ On Sunday at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St., Round Trip plays music for dancing from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. $4 for members; $5 for non-members.

Blyn

■ Today in Club Seven lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, 270756 U.S. Highway 101, dance to the cool country tunes of the Buck Ellard Band from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Friday, Social Network plays favorites of the Top ’40s from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Saturday, the Chris Ward Band brings modern country hits and originals from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Friday in the Rainforest Bar, listen to the contemporary acoustic tunes of RL Heyer from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Saturday, Van Dukes plays bluesy songs from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

■ On Wednesday at Nourish, 1345 S. Sequim Ave., Victor Reventlow hosts the open mic from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with sign-ups at 6 p.m.

Port Hadlock

■ On Friday at the Ajax Cafe, 21 N. Water St., Trevor Hanson plays classical guitar from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Saturday, Mick and Barry play acoustic classic rock and country from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Sundays at Zoog’s Caveman Cookin’, 141 Chimacum Road, join the all-ages open mic from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Musicians, singers, poets, comics, dramatists and everyone in between are welcome.

Port Ludlow

■ Today in the Fireside Room at the Resort at Port Ludlow, 1 Heron Road, Trevor Hanson plays classical guitar from 5 p.m. to closing.

Port Townsend

■ Today at the Cellar Door, 940 Water St., come check out this week’s local DJ starting at 9 p.m.

On Friday, Cold Comfort, a band specializing in indie rock and power pop, plays from 9 p.m. to midnight. $5 cover.

On Saturday, Cairo Pythian visits from Olympia to play with Dr. Light of Port Townsend and Dumpster Baby of Bainbridge Island from 9 p.m. to midnight. $5 cover.

On Tuesdays, join the all-ages weekly jazz jam from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. This week, Rex Rice plays the free event.

■ Every Thursday, The Boiler Room, 711 Water St., host an all-ages open mic at 8 p.m., with sign-ups at 7 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Uptown Pub & Grill, 1016 Lawrence St., Matney Cook ranges from moody ballads to danceable alternative country hits starting at 9 p.m.

On Saturday, Matt Sircely plays rock, folk and bluegrass from 9 p.m. into the night.

On Tuesdays, join in on an open mic with Jarrod Bramson at 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at Sirens, 823 Water St., singer-songwriter Michael A. Perez brings his acoustic soul and Latin-based folk music to the stage at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Saturday, Nathan Kalish and the Lastcallers play country at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Tuesdays, there’s a fiddler jam session starting at 7 p.m.

On Wednesdays, join the open mic starting at 9 p.m.

■ On Saturday at Pourhouse, 2231 Washington St., Lowire performs multi-layered, danceable funk, rock and more from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

■ On Saturday at Hilltop Tavern, 2510 W. Sims Way, Three Chords and the Truth plays classic country western, honky-tonk two-step, waltz, swing and more at 8 p.m.

■ Every Monday at Alchemy, 842 Washington St., Trevor Hanson plays guitar from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ Every Monday at The Tin Brick, 232 Taylor St., Jack Reid hosts an all-ages open mic, with sign-ups at 6 p.m., the opening act at 6:30 p.m. and the mic at 7 p.m. Poets are welcome.

■ On Tuesday at Seaport Landing, 1201 Hancock St., Arts to Elders, in conjunction with the Northwind Arts Center and the Port Townsend Art Commission, presents Nostalgia, a five-piece instrumental group, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. No cover.

Discovery Bay

■ Every Saturday at Snug Harbor Cafe, 281732 U.S. Highway 101, Skeeter Ezell plays covers of Roy Orbison and the like from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

High notes

■ On Saturday at the Big Barn Farm, 702 Kitchen-Dick Road west of Sequim, Five Acre School’s annual “Beat the Blues Barn Dance” kicks off at 2 p.m. with Kate Powers and her group playing and Rosie Sharpe calling the family dance. Finishing off the afternoon is a community drumming event.

For the evening portion, Five Acre’s Soundwaves busts out marimbas after 5 p.m. Joy in Mudville follows with some stompgrass at 5:45 p.m.; then it’s Cort Armstrong with instrumentals at around 7:15 p.m. Joy in Mudville returns at 7:45 p.m.

Food and beverages will be for sale at the dance, along with a silent auction and raffle, in support of the school’s scholarship and equipment funds.

Tickets at the door: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., $5; 5 p.m. till late, $15; all day, $15; ages 13 and younger, free.

■ On Saturday at the Black Diamond Community Hall, 1942 Black Diamond Road south of Port Angeles, the Possum Carvers play for the contra dance with Linnaea Chapman calling. Instruction at 7:30 p.m.; dance runs from 8 p.m. until about 10:30 p.m.

Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for those younger than 18 (or bring equivalent in goodies to share at break).

■ On Sunday at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road, Coyle, Wild Rabbit brings folk-stomp Americana to the stage at 3 p.m. Admission is by donation and details are at www.coyleconcerts.com.

■ On Sunday, it’s an English country dance at the Rosewind Common House, 3131 Haines St., Port Townsend, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., with teacher and caller Nan Evans and the Rosewind Country Dance Band. A potluck dinner follows. A suggested donation is $5.

This is a fragrance-free facility; no street shoes.

■ On Tuesday at Peninsula College’s Maier Hall, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles, the Peninsula College Jazz Ensemble presents a free winter concert at 7 p.m.
