Last two clues announced for Guess the Guest contest

PORT TOWNSEND — The final two clues have been announced in a contest to guess the identity of the 11th annual Port Townsend Film Festival’s special guest.

The guest will arrive in a hot rod to celebrate the opening of the three-day festival, said Janette Force, film festival executive director.

Each year, the film festival features a Hollywood star as a special guest — past guests have included Tony Curtis, Cloris Leachman, Jane Powell, Peter Fonda and Elliot Gould — and each year, a contest to guess the name of the special guest begins about two months before the festival, which will be Sept. 24-26 this year.

The name of this year’s guest will be announced next Wednesday — along with the name of the person who won the film festival’s Guess the Guest contest.

The winner of the contest will have a photograph taken with the special guest.

In past years, the Guess the Guest contest has offered three clues — one per week. This year, in recognition of the film festival beginning its second decade, two clues each week are being offered.

HERE ARE THIS WEEK’S CLUES:

Clue No. 5:

A few years short of the 7-year itch,

She gave her marital preach.

T’was good news for some.

But unfortunate for one.

As she removed the blood-sucking leech.

Clue No. 6:

Fierce as a forty pounder

(right out of a Kipling tale).

We’ve given clues left.

We’ve given clues right.

Solving it now can’t fail.

HERE ARE THE CLUES THAT WERE REVEALED EARLIER:

Clue No. 1:

“Doin’ the best they can, two American kids

“singing songs of fame

“what do you do

“when the song’s about you

“and no one remembers your name?”

Clue Number 2:

“He tootled the horn, to his sister’s scorn,

“who would often give him the shoulder.

“But now she’s a fan, Adolphe is her man,

“and his honking has grown so much bolder.”

Clue No. 3

“In a Chevy with fins (so nice to ride in)

“Queen of the inland sea

“She braves all the waves

“and accepts accolades

“pointing out alkies with glee.”

Clue No. 4:

“Bean town’s a mean town

“no Mudville joy for her.

“She thought her team was No. 1.

“Now even magic has no fun —

“another year of grrrr.”

The special guest will arrive at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24 for the opening ceremony of the three-day festival, and the outdoor screening on Taylor Street of “American Graffiti” and “icons of film a la Andy Warhol,” Force said.

How to enter

To enter the Guess the Guest contest, send your guess by mail to the Port Townsend Film Festival, P.O. Box 594, Port Townsend, WA 98368; by e-mail to director@ptfilmfest.com, with “Contest” written in the subject line, or by hand-delivery to the film festival office at Mount Baker Block, 211 Taylor St., Suite 32-A, second floor, at the corner of Water and Taylor streets.

Entries should include the guest guess, and the guesser’s mailing address, daytime phone number and e-mail address. The winner will be chosen by random drawing from the first correct answers.
