LAPUSH — It will stay open — for now.
Coast Guard officials announced Wednesday they will not close Station Quillayute River in the immediate future.
“We were very concerned with the recent loss of life,” said Capt. Carl Bromund, readiness planner for the 13th Coast Guard District in Seattle. “We want to look at the recent incidents hard and identify what can be done so they don’t happen again.”
Bromund said the four recent deaths off Little James Island were “the first thing on our minds’ in making the decision to keep the 26-man station open.
