LAPUSH — The U.S. Coast Guard suspended its search Thursday for a missing Sequim man whose boat washed ashore without him on board.
Richard Meyers, 50, a dentist who works for the Quileute tribe in LaPush three days a week, set out alone from LaPush on Tuesday to go fishing.
When he didn’t show up for work Wednesday morning, his wife, Renae, reported him overdue.
The Coast Guard on Wednesday evening located Meyers’ 19-foot pleasure boat aground near Goodman Creek, eight miles south of LaPush, with its engine still running.
The key was still in the ignition, and the boat had some damage to the propeller, said Ed Kaetzel, a Coast Guard civilian search and rescue controller.
The crew of the helicopter that spotted the boat searched the vessel and the surrounding area for Meyers but did not find him, Petty Officer Adam Eggers said.
On Thursday, the search for Meyers was suspended pending new information.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call the Coast Guard at 360-417-5840.
