LAPUSH — The body of the 74-year-old man killed Wednesday when his boat ran into rocks near the mouth of the Quillayute River was found with a survival suit on.
The Coast Guard reported Thursday that Robert R. Roberts said he was putting the suit on after he sent out a distress call.
Petty Officer Sarah Foster-Snell said the body was transferred to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Department for further investigation.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Lenahan, who responded to the call, couldn’t be reached Saturday.
Coast Guard boats and personnel from Station Quillayute River, two helicopters from Port Angeles and one helicopter from Astoria, Ore. responded to Roberts’ distress call at about 8:35 p.m. Wednesday.
Roberts’ body was found near Little James Island Thursday morning.
