A fire in steep state Department of Natural Resources terrain north of Lake Crescent was contained at 15 acres Sunday afternoon.
“We do have a line around it,”‘ said Sue Trettevik, DNR fire duty officer. “We’re into mopping it up now.”
The fire, off Joyce-Piedmont Road, was reported at 4:15 p.m. Saturday in a DNR clearcut, and about five 20-person crews fought it overnight. It also involve three fire engines and four water-carrying tender trucks.
A helicopter was called in Saturday to pull water from Lake Sutherland and drop it on the fire nearby.
No homes were threatened by the fire.
“It didn’t actually move or grow a lot,” Trettevik said, because there was no wind to fan it.
