Lady Washington in Port Angeles Habor this week

PORT ANGELES — The state’s official tall ship, Lady Washington, is visiting Port Angeles through Wednesday, offering deck tours and “adventure sails.”

Used in several movies, Lady Washington is a full-scale reproduction of Robert Gray’s brig of the same name that in 1788 became the first American vessel to visit the West Coast of North America, Honolulu, Hong Kong and Japan, pioneering trade between the newly independent United States of America and the Orient.

Its schedule today, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday:

* Dockside tours of the ship will be offered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The tours are free. Donations are welcome.

* Adventure sails will be offered from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

Tickets are $45 for adults, $25 for children.

To make reservations for the three-hour sails, phone 800-200-5239, Ext. 109.

Lady Washington will make a second trip to the North Olympic Peninsula later this summer, visiting Port Townsend on Sept. 8-10 and Sept. 18-19.

The official Tall Ship Ambassador for the state of Washington, the 112-foot-long Lady Washington’s primary focus is providing hands-on maritime heritage programs to schools and the general public.

Owned by the Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority in Aberdeen, it was launched on March 7, 1989.
