Kilmer postpones Town Hall meetings

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Derek Kilmer has postponed to early February town hall meetings that had been scheduled in Port Angeles and Quilcene next week.

The change is because of a change in the House schedule, he said in a press release issued Thursday.

The House will remain in session next week as members continue pushing for an end to the federal government shutdown.

“I always enjoy engaging in-person with the folks I represent at town hall meetings,” Kilmer said. “We will get these rescheduled as soon as possible.

“For now, I’m putting all my energy into ending this mindless government shutdown that’s bad for our economy and terrible for people in our region who are showing up to work but not being paid.”

Instead of the in-person meetings, Kilmer will host a Facebook Live Town Hall at 6 p.m. Wednesday at www.facebook.com/derek.kilmer.

At the start of the town hall meeting, a live video will appear at the top of Kilmer’s newsfeed. Participants who are logged into Facebook can click on the live video to watch the event in real time. Constituents will be invited to ask questions by entering their first name, hometown and question in the comments.

The video will be available on Facebook after the event for those who could not join while the event was live.

Kilmer represents the 6th Congressional District, which includes the North Olympic Peninsula.

The Gig Harbor Democrat also has postponed town hall meetings in Pierce and Grays Harbor counties.

Meetings set in Kitsap and Mason counties Jan. 26 will go on as planned barring another change in the House schedule, Kilmer said.
