NORDLAND — Fort Flagler State Park officials expect to hear by today whether or not they will be issued a conditional use permit to establish a kayak park on Marrowstone Island.
A public hearing on the proposed 1,000-square-foot park, to be established on a 70-acre site at the southern tip of the island, was held April 22 before the Jefferson County Hearings Examiner.
Unless state park officials hear otherwise, a call for bids will be issued to develop the kayak park, Park Manager Mike Zimmerman said earlier this week.
The park will be accessible only by human-powered watercraft and will affect the surrounding forest at a minimal level.
