CHIMACUM — Two bomb threats disrupted the first week of the new year at Chimacum Middle School, resulting in one juvenile’s arrest, a school lockdown and student evacuations while sheriff’s deputies investigated.
School officials contacted the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department on Wednesday and Thursday, after receiving written bomb threats.
“We had bomb threats in Chimacum that were determined to be hoaxes,” said Undersheriff Ken Sukert.
After investigating both incidents, deputies identified two separate groups of teenagers as those responsible for the threats.
One group, three boys, is suspected of programming a bomb threat text message into a calculator Wednesday.
The other group of eight girls is suspected of writing a bomb threat message that was left Thursday on a girls’ rest room wall.
Deputies arrested one girl.
