An overturned kayak found Tuesday north of Freshwater Bay apparently drifted to the Peninsula from Victoria.
The kayak disappeared about two weeks ago from Vancouver Island, the U.S. Coast Guard reported.
The Coast Guard located the white kayak Tuesday afternoon, vacant and adrift in the Strait of Juan de Fuca, 5.75 miles north of Freshwater Bay.
Using a business card located in the kayak, rescuers contacted the boat’s owner in Victoria, who said he had lost his kayak around New Year’s Day, Coast Guard Petty Officer Zach Greenlee said.
The kayak’s owner is making arrangements to pick the boat up in Port Angeles, Greenlee said.
The Coast Guard did not release the owner’s name.
