JOYCE — Cheers echoed through the halls of Crescent School on Friday morning as teachers and students learned the proposed four-year $1.31 million maintenance and operations levy had squeaked through on the fourth try.
The tax measure passed by three votes.
“We interrupted our instructional programs with a moment of jubilee,” said Superintendent Rich Wilson.
“There were a lot of people standing in line to cheer. I am glad we are able to.”
Clallam County election officials counted eight lagging ballots Friday in the all-mail special election that ended May 18.
The result: 543 voters, or 60.33 percent, supported the measure, and 357 voters, 39.67 percent, didn’t.
“The levy passed by three votes,” said Clallam County Auditor Cathleen McKeown, who certified the election Friday.
State law requires 60 percent voter approval for a school tax levy measure to pass.
