JOHN NELSON’S LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: Tune out Tax Day with musical offerings

MONDAY IS TAX Day, so all of you who have sent in your returns can get out and celebrate with live music and dancing.

Those of you who haven’t should dance your tax-time blues away.

No matter what, you’ll feel better.

Port Angeles

■ Today at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, Jerry’s Country Jam is hosted by Classic Country with musical guests Les Wamboldt and Terry Roszatycki from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Saturday, the Jimmy Hoffman Band plays classic and country rock with the Jiminy Crickets from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

■ Today at the Junction Roadhouse, 242701 U.S. Highway 101, multi-instrumentalist Ches Ferguson plays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Friday, the Shivering Denizens’ rockabilly and whiskey blues will heat you up from 8 p.m. to midnight. Cover.

■ On Friday, 2nd Friday Art Rock turns 4 (Marjorie Newberg is the guest artist) and welcomes Seattle band Urban Jellyfish to the Bar N9ne stage, 229 W. First St., at 8 p.m. The five-piece band uses rock, soul, blues and alternative sounds that resemble a blend of Nirvana and Morphine. $3 cover.

On Saturday, the Cody Rentas Band plays blues and rock at 9 p.m. $3 cover.

On Friday, the Jimmy Hoffman Band will have you dancing at the Front Street Alibi, 1605 E. Front St., from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

■ On Friday, Rachael, Mick and Barry perform classic rock, Motown and country at Barhop Brewing, 224 W. Railroad Ave., from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, Dave and Rosalie Secord and the Luck of the Draw Band welcome guest Twisted Roots (Marty Kaler, Bob Lawrence-Markarian and Leo Bidne) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Sunday, join the country jam from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

■ On Saturday, Hawaii Amor performs island music on ukulele at Elliott’s Antique Emporium, 135 W. First St., from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

■ On Monday, celebrate Tax Day with the return of Charlie Ferris and Charlie’s Angels to the Bushwhacker Restaurant, 1527 E. First St., from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Charlie’s got some new tunes and stories from his adventures in Palm Springs, Fla.

■ Every Tuesday at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., the Port Angeles Senior Swingers present Wally’s Boys playing ballroom dance favorites from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first-timers free.

■ On Saturday at the Quimper Grange, 1219 Corona St., Port Townsend, join the fun as Nan Evans calls to The Contradictions. Dancing starts at 7:30 p.m. and ends at about 10:30 p.m. $6; $3 for those 3 to 18 years old; free for those younger than 3.

■ On Sunday, the Washington Old Time Fiddlers meet instead of on the usual second Saturday. The schedule is: Doors open at 9:30 a.m., meeting at 11 a.m. and on-stage performances at 1 p.m. Jamming, lessons and practices from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., all at the Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road.
