JOHN NELSON’S LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: Stock up on siestas before Cinco de Mayo

IT’S ANOTHER MONTH and another round of live music opportunities, including Cinco de Mayo events, expanded outdoor schedules and more.

As the weather warms up, make your move to one or more of these fine venues.

Port Angeles

■ Today at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, Jerry’s Country Jam with special guests Terry Roszatycki and Les Wamboldt will get you dancing from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Saturday, it’s a Cinco de Mayo party with Andy Koch and Badd Dog Blues Society with Mark Dodson and Todd Fisher, starting at 8:30 p.m.

■ Today, start your weekend at the Junction Roadhouse, 242701 U.S. Highway 101, multi-instrumentalist Ches Ferguson performs from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Friday, blues it up with the Soul Shakers and Cindy Mae Lowder from 8 p.m. to midnight. $5 cover.

■ On Friday at Barhop Brewing, 124 W. Railroad Ave., Bill and Rudy perform classic rock ’n’ roll and country from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

■ On Sunday at the Next Door Gastropub, 229 W. First St., the local six-piece jazz ensemble 4th Street Cats performs at 5 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, Old Tyme Country with Les Wamboldt plays old-time country tunes from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Every Tuesday at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., the Port Angeles Senior Swingers present Wally and the Boys playing ballroom favorites from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first-timers free.

■ On Friday and Saturday at Dupuis Restaurant, 256861 U.S. Highway 101, Bob and Dave play blues from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Saturday, Bob, Marty and Leo from Twisted Roots perform at Country Aire, 200 W. First St., Port Angeles, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Sequim and Blyn

■ On Friday at the Oasis Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., the Discovery Bay Pirates perform sea chanteys and Irish music from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Sunshine Cafe, 145 W. Washington St., “Jazzy Judy” Clark sings a variety of music genres with guest vocalist Mario Lambarena during the First Friday Art Walk.

■ It’s “All the Buzz” on Wednesday at the Sequim Senior Activity Center, 921 E. Hammond St., with Victor hosting the open mic from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

■ Today is audition night in Club Seven lounge at 7 Cedars Casino from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. First up is Country Shane, followed by Maxwell Incorporated at 7:30 p.m., with the Ron Hendee Band closing the show at 9 p.m.

On Friday on the Big Stage, Hair Nation celebrates the big-hair era at 8 p.m.

The Cinco de Mayo party continues with the Motown, rock and rhythm and blues of The Hitmen from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Sunday, Porto Alegre finishes the Cinco de Mayo party from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Port Hadlock

■ On Saturday at the Ajax Cafe, 21 N. Water St., Mick and Barry play classic rock, country and folk from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Port Townsend

■ Today at The Upstage, 923 Washington St., Abby Mae and Dillan Witherow perform roots and Americana starting at 7 p.m. Sliding-scale cover of $5 to $8.

On Friday, Mlisande and Alexandre, a Quebecois traditional jazz and Gypsy jazz duo, perform in French and English from 7:30 p.m. on. $12 cover in advance or $14 at the door.

On Saturday, have a roaring good time with the Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne Band and its boogie-woogie, blues and roots rock ’n’ roll starting at 8 p.m. $16 in advance; $20 at the door.

Sunday brings the Open Blues Jam at 6 p.m. $5 cover.

■ On Friday at Port Townsend Brewing, 330 10th St., the Delta Rays play from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Sunday, the Cinco de Mayo party continues with The Alternators from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Uptown Pub, 1016 Lawrence St., Les Izzmore performs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with Simon Lynge following from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.

■ Today, Steve Grandinetti plays guitar at the Owl Sprit Cafe, 218 Polk St., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Today, classical guitarist Trevor Hanson plays at Ichikawa Japanese Cuisine, 1208 Water St., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Every Monday Trevor Hanson plays guitar at Alchemy, 842 Washington St., from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Thursdays and Fridays, Steve Grandinetti plays and sings at the Northwest Maritime Center Cafe, 431 Water St., from noon until 2 p.m.

High notes

■ On Saturday at Nash’s Organic Produce, 1865 E. Anderson Road, Dungeness, it’s a foot-stomping barn dance and potluck with Seattle blues band Phantoms of Soul, with Good Machine opening at 7:30 p.m. and the potluck at 6:30 p.m. $10 cover.

■ On Friday, the Northwest Big Band Workshop meets at the American Legion Hall, 209 Monroe St., Port Townsend, with musicians from 10 states and Canada. Two complete big bands under the direction of Chuck Easton and Craig Buhler will perform at 7:30 p.m. Your $5 suggested donation benefits the Jefferson County Homeless Shelter.

■ On Sunday, celebrate Cinco de Mayo with Tres Piedras y Amigos at La Isla Family Restaurant, 1145 Water St., Port Townsend, from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
