JOHN NELSON’S LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: Give the green light for St. Paddy’s fun

THIS WEEK, WE have several reasons to celebrate: the wearin’ o’ the green, the first day of spring, getting through the first week of daylight saving time.

Whatever the reason, you’ll find the right place to celebrate on the Peninsula among the following suggestions.

Port Angeles

■ Today at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, the country jam is hosted by Jerry Robinson with Terry Roszatycki, Jim Rosand and Les Wamboldt from 5 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

■ On Friday at Stymie’s Bar & Grill at Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road, Trevor and Sam begin a three-day St. Patrick’s celebration from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

■ Today in Club Seven lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, Blyn, Tanga brings a Latin beat to dance night from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Band members include Mike Fujita, guitar; Ed Donahue, trumpet; Jim Rosand, keyboards; Tom Svornich, drums; and Kevin MacCartney on sax, flute, congas and EWI (electric wind instrument).

On Friday, dance to the Joey James Dean Band from 8 p.m. to midnight.

On Saturday, the Blue Holiday Band performs blues, roots and rock at 7:30 p.m. $5 to $8 sliding-scale cover.

On Sunday, two events celebrate St. Patrick’s Day:

At 3 p.m., Mary Jane Lamond and Wendy MacIsaac, whose album “Seinn” was listed on NPR’s 2012 top 10, perform. $15 cover.

At 6 p.m., the traditional open mic takes over. $5 cover.

On Wednesday, acoustic bluesman Doug MacLeod performs at 7:30 p.m. $10 cover.

■ On Friday, Washington Blues Society “Best of 2012” winners Brian Lee and the Orbiters will blast blues at the Olympic Peninsula Dance at the Port Townsend Elks Lodge, 555 Otto St., from 8 p.m. to 10:45 p.m. Adults, $15; students with ID and disabled, $10.
