PORT TOWNSEND — Anti-war advertisements could be soon seen on the sides of local transit coaches.
Jefferson Transit’s board voted unanimously to let private organizations purchase political ads on buses.
“The issue of ads with a political theme or with anything of a controversial nature has not come up until now,” said Dave Turissini, Jefferson Transit general manager.
“We want to be sure that our decision was based on solid legal grounds and not emotion.”
Members of the Port Townsend Peace Movement approached Jefferson Transit and asked if it could purchase ad space on the sides of buses, the same way an anti-war group purchased space on Clallam Transit buses in Clallam County.
