PORT TOWNSEND — Nearly 8,000 ballots go in the mail today for Jefferson County voters in preparation for the Sept. 16 primary election.
Elections Supervisor Karen Cartmel said the number of people choosing to vote by mail is rising every year.
Of the county’s 12,866 registered voters, 7,845 will cast their ballots by mail.
Poll voting is available for people who haven’t applied for absentee ballots. Voters can apply for an absentee ballot until the day before the election.
Ballots being delivered to the Jefferson County courthouse must arrive before 8 p.m. on election day and mailed ballots must be postmarked Sept. 16 to be counted.
Finalists for two elections will be determined during the primary voting.
