Close the Jefferson County Courthouse a half-hour earlier.
Make county employees take occasional mandatory days off.
Limit employees from traveling out of state on taxpayer funds.
Those were some of the proposals presented at a meeting Wednesday at which more than 50 Jefferson County officials, department heads and others explored ways to remedy the county’s deep budget deficit.
The county has already said it plans to lay off employees this year to fix a $300,000 revenue shortfall in a $12 million general-fund budget.
Between six and eight people are expected to be laid off in June, County Administrator David Goldsmith said.
Other vacant positions will be left unfilled.
