Candidates for Jefferson County sheriff are building up sizable campaign war chests as primary elections approach next month.

Democrat Mike Brasfield, a former assistant police chief in Seattle and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has collected the most in contributions.

That total includes a $5,000 contribution from the Jefferson County Democratic Party made July 26, Eickhoff said.
