QUILCENE — Port of Port Townsend commissioners Wednesday approved purchasing 8 1/2 acres of land next to the Quilcene Marina.
Port officials say there will be instant income from the property and the purchase has the potential of bringing new jobs to the south Jefferson County.
“We’ve gotten it at a very good price and at no cost to taxpayers,” said Larry Crockett, the Port’s executive director.
Commissioners unanimously gave Port staff the green light to buy the property after an executive session during a meeting Wednesday afternoon meeting at Point Hudson.
The property is being purchased from the state Department of Natural Resources for $287,000.
According to Crockett, Coast Seafoods Co. will immediately lease three buildings on the site, including one large concrete structure designed for seafood processing.
The buildings are just to the south of Coast’s facility on Linger Longer Road.
