Jefferson planning commission releases draft comprehensive plan

PORT TOWNSEND — Following months of public meetings, the Jefferson County Planning Commission and the Department of Community Development will roll out a draft comprehensive plan update at the May 7 planning commission meeting.

The draft plan is posted at www.co.jefferson.wa.us/1708/2025-periodic-update and the public is encouraged to email comments to 2025compplan@co.jefferson.wa.us.

Under the state Growth Management Act, counties the size of Jefferson must conduct a complete review of their plans at least every 10 years.

Jefferson County completed its last periodic review in 2018. The 2025 plan will be revisited in 2035.

A series of events to present the comprehensive plan materials is scheduled for the next several months, including planning commission workshops to review drafts and board of county commissioners meetings for legislative decisions on plan updates.

“There are always core groups of people who are very involved in the planning process, but we are making a concerted effort to reach the broader community,” said Joel Peterson, project manager for the comprehensive plan update. “Many voices help to make a more robust, enduring plan.”

The Jefferson County Planning Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m Wednesday at the Washington State University Jefferson County Extension, 97 Oak Bay Road, Port Hadlock.

To join the meeting online, visit https://zoom.us/j/96997604223?pwd=NUJoRktHNEtOUjFHTUF1VDdSaXpXZz09.
