Jefferson: Newly appointed county commissioner won’t seek election to keep post

Jefferson County Commissioner-designate Judi Mackey said Tuesday she won’t seek election to the post this fall.

“It’s too short of a time, and I’m not prepared to do it,” Mackey, D-Brinnon, said Tuesday of her decision not to serve past her appointment, which will end in December.

She was appointed in June to fill the 3rd District seat of Wendi Wrinkle, who resigned because of health reasons.

Mackey, who retired in June as Quilcene School District superintendent, is expected to be installed as commissioner next month.

Candidates have until Aug. 1 to file for election at the county auditor’s office in Port Townsend.

Mail-in filing started Monday, and in-person filing at the County Courthouse begins July 28.
