Jefferson: Marine law conference under way

PORT LUDLOW — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office’s marine division and the deputy who oversees it have been nominated for honors at the annual Marine Law Enforcement Conference this week at the Resort at Port Ludlow.

Deputy Brian Tracer was nominated for marine law enforcement officer of the year, and the department was nominated for marine law enforcement program of the year.

Award recipients will be announced Thursday night during a banquet at the conference center.

In addition to performing water rescues, the marine division conducts boarding safety inspections and educational programs for school and youth groups, Tracer said.

The conference is being attended by 130 people representing marine agencies from 34 county sheriff’s departments and 15 police departments.
