PORT TOWNSEND — Seven organizations hope to overturn a Jefferson County Comprehensive Plan amendment that created a mineral overlay for Fred Hill Materials.
The groups filed a petition for review with the Western Washigton Growth Management Hearings Board on Feb. 21.
“The county reached its decision in the face of enormous opposition without fully investigating the enormous long-term implications to the county’s environment and economy,” said John Fabian, a member of the Hood Canal Coalition’s steering committee.
Poulsbo-based Fred Hill Materials has a 144-acre sand-and-gravel pit south of state Highway 104.
