Filing for the fall elections begins today in the auditor’s office of the Jefferson County Courthouse.
Almost 50 positions — from city council to cemetery board — are up for grabs.
Filing closes on Friday.
If more than two candidates file and qualify for an office, they will face off in a primary election on Sept. 18.
The top two vote getters go on the Nov. 6 general election ballot.
There are no partisan — GOP or Democrat — or state or national offices up for election this fall.
More than 40 percent of Jefferson County’s elected offices will be on the ballot, including more than half of the fire district and school board positions.
