Two days after a seat on the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners officially became vacant, the Democratic Party meets today to nominate a new commissioner.
The Democrats will meet at 6 p.m. at the county library, 620 Cedar Ave., Port Hadlock.
Party spokesman Marty Gay said six people have applied for the position, but he declined Monday to name them.
The Democrats will narrow the field to three during tonight’s meeting.
Then those names will be forwarded to the remaining two county commissioners — Republicans Glen Huntingford and Dan Titterness — to make a selection within 60 days.
The vacancy was made official Sunday when the resignation of 3rd District Commissioner Wendi Wrinkle, D-Shine, took effect.
