PORT TOWNSEND — Anyone seeking more fruit or produce to use can contact Quimper Community Harvest group’s Cathie Wier at 360-385-3581 or cathiew@eusers.com.

This group of local volunteers, which began harvesting Port Townsend trees in 2008, has donated more than 33,000 pounds of organic fruit and vegetables to local citizens and organizations that need it.

They have expanded their efforts and now pick trees in Chimacum and Quilcene, and on Marrowstone Island.

The public also can volunteer to help the group at its twice-weekly (Tuesday evening and Saturday morning) pick times.

Some volunteers pick every week, and others pick occasionally.

In exchange for a couple hours of time, volunteers collect some produce for their family and to share with other local citizens who may otherwise have difficulty accessing fresh organic produce.

The rest of the bounty is delivered to organizations such as food banks, senior housing facilities, local schools, the Boiler Room and Olympic Community Action Programs transitional housing.

To volunteer or seek fruit, contact Seth Rolland at 379-0414 or sethrolland@gmail.com.
