PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson County commissioners have restarted the process of examining a noise overlay for Jefferson County International Airport.
The overlay is intended to let nearby property owners know their land could be subject to up to 55 decibels of airplane noise, Port of Port Townsend officials say.
A citizens group, fearing a drop in property values, has been opposing the overlay, saying clear why the Port needs the measure.
The Port of Port Townsend operates the airport.
The overlay is a part of the Port’s Airport Master Plan, which outlines goals for the airport over the next two decades.
The Port adopted the master plan last month, but left out the overlay portion because of the opposition.
County Planning Commission members will begin addressing the overlay again next month.
