Jefferson County commissioners held the first of four hearings Monday for the county’s $11.04 million general fund budget for 2003.
Around 10 people — mostly department heads or representatives of county boards — showed up for the meeting, which covered budgets for community services, the conservation futures fund, veterans relief, weed control and other issues.
Another budget hearing at 11 a.m. today at the County Courthouse will cover the county’s public works and public services departments.
Budget hearings at 2 p.m. today will cover the county’s law and justice and general government departments.
Another budget hearing is being held at 3:30 p.m. for county employees to address the commissioners with their concerns.
The county’s budget largely maintains belt-tightening that took place earlier this year during midyear budget cuts.
