PORT TOWNSEND — More than 25 percent of Jefferson County’s registered voters had returned ballots in the Aug. 4 primary election as of Friday morning.
Jefferson County voter registrar Sandi Eldridge said 933 people, or 25.63 percent of the 7,542 registered voters who had received ballots, had returned them.
In Clallam County, Auditor Shoona Riggs said the ballot count would not be updated until Monday. As of Thursday, 9,170 people, or 21.06 percent of the 43,544 registered voters who received ballots, had returned them.
On the Jefferson County ballot in specific jurisdictions are three-candidate races for Port Townsend City Council Position 6, Sequim School Board Position 5 and Clallam County Fire District No. 3 commission, as well as a four-candidate race for Sequim School Board District 1.
On the Clallam County ballot in specific jurisdictions are three-candidate races for county commissioner District 1, Port Angeles City Council Position 5, Sequim School Board District 5 and Fire District No. 3 commissioner, plus four-candidate contests for Port of Port Angeles District 3 and Sequim School Board District 1.
The Sequim school races and the fire district race spill into parts of both counties, with the majority of voters in Clallam County’s East End.
The Sequim-area ballot also has a question of forming a metropolitan park district for the Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center and election of five board members for the district.
Ballots must be returned by 8 p.m. Aug. 4 by mail or to drop boxes. Locations include:
Jefferson County
■ Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend, in the Auditor’s Office or a drive-up box to the rear of the courthouse off Franklin Street.
■ Jefferson County Library, 620 Cedar Ave., Port Hadlock.

■ Forks District Court 2 lobby, 502 E. Division St.

Ballots were mailed to registered voters in both counties July 15. Registration for the primary election closed Monday. Aug. 18 is the deadline for each county canvassing board to certify election results, and Aug. 21 is the final day for the secretary of state to certify election returns statewide.
